At a cost of $2.99 to $3.99 per film, Internet users will now be able to select from the Warner, Universal and Sony Pictures catalogues as well as hiring recent films.
About 6000 films are available for hire in all and there's no need to subscribe. Once the user has paid for their film they have one month to watch their choice. The title disappears 24 hours after you start watching.
The films are available on YouTube alongside already free online content. Google hopes to eclipse Netflix with its new service and offer an alternative solution to iTunes.
Not yet available in the UK, film fans will no doubt be hoping the pilot goes well on the other side of the pond. ;)
