New York Times paywall
The days of free unlimited access to online media are starting to look increasingly numbered. As expected, the New York Times is set to start charging users for unbridled access to online content.

The New York Times paywall is already in place in Canada and is due to come into force in the US on 28 March in the aim of creating a new source of revenue to bolster the paper's finances.

Subscription Packages

Subscribers to the print version of the New York Times will be granted unlimited access to content on the website. In other words, they can view the same articles on paper or online ... not much to be gained there, then.

Other users will have to pay $15 per month for access to the website and smartphone app, $20 per month for the website and iPad app, or $35 per month for the website, smartphone app and iPad app.

The New York Times app for Android and BlackBerry can be downloaded via the newspaper's website. Apple versions of the app can be purchased in the App Store, with 30% of the cost price going to Apple, of course.

With paywalls now starting to gain ground, we're keen to hear whether you'll be willing to put your hand in your pocket to read the news online. Follow the link to the forum below to let us know what you think.
