We already knew we'd be likely to see the first Windows Phone 7 smartphones released in October. Now rumours from several different sources have suggested that Microsoft's new mobile OS is gearing up for worldwide launch on 11 October.The RTM (Released To Manufacturing) version of the OS has now been finalised and was handed over to smartphone manufacturers last week. This officially commits manufacturers to releasing smartphones running on the Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system, and the new handsets can be unveiled as soon as Microsoft gives their makers the go-ahead.
So could that be what's in store for 11 October? In any case, the people at Pocket-Lint have apparently got wind of a Microsoft event due to be held in New York on that very date ...
