Test and analysis
Now moving into audio, we look at MP3 encoding of an album.

We use iTunes 9 in its 32-bit and 64-bit versions, depending on whether we're on the high-end or low-end PC.

The test consists in converting a WAV album to MP3 at 192 Kbps.

Memory has no influence on encoding time on the entry-level machine.

The same goes for the faster machine: encoding time is the same whatever the quantity of RAM.

Here are the results that we obtained on our entry-level machine, then on our high-end machine.

Entry-level machine (Core 2 Duo) - Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit
Rendering time in seconds: low is good

High-level machine (Core i7) - Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Rendering time in seconds: low is good
