The test
Adobe Photoshop CS4 is available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. We use the 32-bit on the entry level PC and the 64-bit version on the high-end machine.

The test consists in enlarging a 10 Mpixel photo and then applying as series of filters. We stop the stopwatch as soon as the photo is entirely redisplayed.

Here are our readings with Adobe Photoshop CS4 on our entry level PC (32-bit version) and our high-end PC (64-bit version). As the results are given in seconds, low is best.

Here, Windows XP is slightly quicker than the other two more recent systems. Seven is nevertheless slightly faster than Vista.

On our more muscular configuration, the results are comparable, XP slightly in the lead again.
