ViewSonic Renames Its Latest Monitor: V3D245 On Sale Soon

When we first mentioned it a little while ago, it was called the V3D245wm-LED, but ViewSonic has decided to make things easier and name its latest 120 Hz 24'' display the V3D245.

V3D245

The name might be a little different, but everything else is the same.  It's a 23.6'' monitor with a 1920 x 1080 pixel display backlit using LEDs.  The published response time for the TN panel is 2 ms, while the contrast ratio is listed as a frankly implausible 2000000:1.  For audio, there's the same old pair of 2 x 2 W speakers.

Like the Acer GN245HQ, the new monitor has a built-in infra-red transmitter to sync the 3D glasses that are supplied with the picture on screen.  This means you can enjoy 3D content from a number of sources, including Blu-ray 3D discs, a Playstation 3 or an ATI graphics card via the HDMI 1.4b port, not just from computers with an NVIDIA card.

We're not so excited about it that we'd go as far as publishing a story just to say that it's changed name, though: now it's got its own page on ViewSonic's site, we know that it be available in the US in the coming weeks for $499.  There's no news yet on how much it will cost in the UK, but it could easily be £499 given how frequently manufacturers use a simple 1:1 exchange rate at the expense of their British customers.

The only thing that might help keep prices down is competition from Acer, whose 3D monitor now goes for closer to the £300 mark.
