ViewPad 10pro: Change In Components For W7/Android Tablet

Viewsonic has revisited the design for the ViewPad 10Pro, which runs on Windows 7 AND Android, with both hardware and software changes.

The only tablet with two operating systems, Android and Windows 7 in dual boot, the Viewsonic ViewPad 10pro is already undergoing a hardware and software update.

The hardware modifications cover a number of areas. The Atom N455 CPU clocked at 1.66 GHz has been replaced by a Z670 model clocked at 1.5 GHz. Still a single core, this CPU is less powerful than the initial one - lower clock and no 64-bit support - but also consumes less power (thermal envelope of 3 Watts against 6.5 Watts for the N455). Moreover, a 5000 mAh battery is now being used rather than a 3500 mAh battery. A bit of processing power, then, is being sacrificed to battery life, always problematic when a mobile product uses Windows 7. There is some compensation for the user experience in the form of a doubled 2 GB RAM.

On the software side, Android has been given a facelift, going from Froyo 2.2 to Gingerbread 2.3.

For the rest, Viewsonic still has its capacitive screen (1024x600 pixel resolution), wi-fi b/g/n connectivity and Bluetooth 2.1 and still weighs 800 grammes.

No release date has yet been given, but the price, in dollars will be $599 for the 16 GB ViewPad 10 and $679 for the 32 GB version.
