Until now, the Nintendo 3DS could only take still photos in 3D, but a new firmware update means you also shoot glass-free 3D video too.

The new XBOX 360 interface has added plenty of new features, but the 3DS doesn't want to be left behind.

You can now record up to ten minutes of 3D video onto the SD memory card and then watch them on the 3DS—along with other 3D content, which has always been available.  You can't expect amazing quality given the hardware on offer, but filming your friends in 3D and then playing the video back on the portable console looks like great fun.

The update also covers the Mii Plaza service, adding the StreetPass feature allowing you to find fellow gamers around the world.  You can compete in challenge against them, gaining points like in the Xbox 360's 'achievements' system or earning a 'trophy' on the PS3.

Finally, Nintendo has also added a new platform for downloading games—which also works when the device is on standby—and the ability to transfer data from one console to the other.  You can also join friends in multiplayer games like Mario Kart 7.

If you'd like to download the new firmware, go to the 'Other Settings' menu on your 3DS and choose 'Update'.
