Monday was a busy day for video games releases! We take a look at this week's biggies, as well as the best of the rest.
Ubisoft hasn't left anyone out of the action with Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, now out for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS and PSP. A PC edition is also up for release on 11 June. In this new adventure, you'll find the same crazy racing and fast-action capers typical to the Price of Persia series. However, to avoid reproducing the same gameplay many of you will already know only too well, players now have access to magic powers to help win battles, find exits and more.
Another big release this week is Red Dead Redemption, a game that critics are already describing as a masterpiece, even more impressive than 2K Game's previous jaw-dropper, GTA IV. It's now out for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
As well as a one-player adventure set in spectacular Far West scenery, there are also several multiplayer game modes, including 'capture the flag' and a team-based deathmatch.
On a more light-hearted note, ModNation Racers is a bit like a Sony version of Mario Kart, with the same kind of crazy kart racing, skidding and missile launching. One major difference is that your kart and character are both entirely customisable. Plus, there's an easy-to-use track designer which even allows you to share your creations online. There's an online multiplayer mode for up to 12 players and a split-screen 4-player mode. ModNation is available on the Playstation 3 and there's also a version for the PSP.
Still on a racing theme, Split/Second: Velocity is an arcade-style racing game that lets players activate traps placed all around the track. The traps come in all shapes and sizes, from exploding bridges to girders falling from a crane. Setting off a trap throws other players off-course and also changes the track layout by blocking certain paths and opening up new ones. No two laps will ever be the same in Split/Second: Velocity!
