Test and analysis

We continue with video encoding in DivX format. We use an SD video taken from a DVD (VOB – MPEG-2).

The test consists of using TMPGEnc to compress the video to DivX 6.8 format in standard definition and max quality.

We activate all the options relating to use of several cores in parallel.

Very few differences to note between 2 GB and 3 GB. In contrast, with 4 GB, encoding is a little faster.

The same goes for the faster machine: as of 4 GB, encoding time is cut and you gain almost 30 seconds by increasing your RAM from 2 GB to 6 GB.

Here are the results that we obtained on our entry-level machine, then on our high-end machine.

Entry-level machine (Core 2 Duo) - Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit

Rendering time in seconds: low is good

High-level machine (Core i7) - Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Rendering time in seconds: low is good
