The test

Only one version of Windows Live Movie Maker is available for download, the 32-bit version. We are therefore using it on both the 32-bit and 64-bit machines.

Our test consists in making a video from various different sources: 2 JPG images, a WAV audio track and two video tracks from a Panasonic T27 camera. We used WMV (VC-1) encoding at 720p HD Ready resolution.

The Microsoft video editing software, Windows Live Movie Maker is not available for Windows XP. Proof of the progressive abandonment of this system by the software giant. As the results are given in seconds, low is best.

On a small machine, Windows Vista is more at ease than the new OS.

Everything changes on our high-end machine. Here, Windows 7 seems better able to make the most of a four-core processor.
