Online storage

The LaCie CooKey comes with 4 GB of online storage from Wuala that you can use for two years. You can easily store your data and share it with friends over the web.
Once the trial period is over, though, you'll need to pay an annual fee to keep on using the service. 10 GB costs €15, 50 GB costs €60 and 100 GB costs €100.

French manufacturer LaCie is continuing to expand its range of USB keys with this new CooKey. With a Gold SIP connector, it's more resistant to water and scratches.
It's designed to go unnoticed on a keyring next to your other, more traditional keys. It comes in four different versions: 4 GB (which we tested), 8 GB, 16 GB and 32 GB. Whichever version you choose, you get 4 GB of free online storage using the Wuala service for a period of two years.
Poor write speeds
Write speeds certainly aren't this USB key's main strength. On average, copying files onto it splutters along at 4.4 MB/s, while reading data back from it happens at 20.1 MB/s. That means it'll a quarter of an hour to fill the key up, which is not an excellent result. On the other hand, doing the opposite--emptying all of the data from the key onto your computer--is much taster and takes just a little over three minutes.

Dreadful write speeds
After joining up with Wuala, LaCie can offer an interesting hybrid storage model: 4 GB of data on the key, and 4 GB of online storage for two years. That isn't enough to make up for its poor write speeds of just 4.4 MB/s.
