Specialist professional monitor manufacturer TVLogic has announced the forthcoming release of two new 15-inch OLED displays.
I might as well warn you straight away that these monitors are intended for imaging industry professionals and not for the consumer market. Both models will feature SDI and HD SDI entries/outputs, which is the main interface used for transferring digital video in the industry. They'll also feature functions such as Timecode Display and a sensor for monitoring sound levels. TVLogic is advertising viewing angles of 180° and contrast ratios of 100,000:1, which is perfectly feasible considering the previous performances of OLED monitors.
One model with be fitted with a 'regular' OLED panel, whereas the other will be taking the technology one step further with a stereoscopic—or 3D—OLED panel.
TVLogic's new releases mark the return of OLED technology, which seemed to have been pretty much side-lined. In fact, OLED had been completely overshadowed by the onset of 3D TV. We remember getting all excited about Sony's Xel1, not to mention Samsung's prototype 40-inch OLED TV, but then it all seemed to go quiet.
So it looks like OLED is making its comeback, and this time it's 3D-compatible!
