Two New Asus Monitors with 10,000,000:1 Contrast ... Hang on a Minute

Asus may just have shot itself in the foot with a ridiculously exaggerated marketing claim made in the press release for its Designeo VG236 (23") and PG276 (27") monitors. The displays are being advertised with a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1—that's 10 million to 1! But this over-inflated claim smells so fishy that it might actually put people off.

Hopefully DigitalVersus and our friends over at Tom's Hardware won't be the only ones to openly criticise this ludicrous claim, which is clearly aimed at duping uninformed consumers. And to be honest, we'd be pretty surprised to measure a contrast ratio of even just 1,000:1 on one of these screens!

At least the previous Designeo monitors were announced with a slightly more reasonable 50,000:1 contrast ratio, even if in our product test of the Designeo MS238H LED monitor we measured an actual contrast ratio of just 870:1!
