Twitter en route to monetisation

This time it's not a hoax. Twitter, the micro-blogging service, is reported to be studying the launch of paying services.

The Californian start-up has recently raised almost 35 million dollars, a loan that is justified by the rapid increase in Twitterers, now in the region of 7 million active accounts. Twitter is also reported to have refused an offer of 500 million dollars from Facebook.

The service however, all be it popular and innovative, does not yet have an established economic model. According to Reuters, Biz Stone, one of the founders of Twitter, said "we think that there are opportunities to offer services to companies which would help them add value from their use of Twitter. If these companies can get something out of it, we should also be able to gain some revenue".
