The Sharp LE821E is the first range of TVs that we've tested to include Sharp's Quattron technology.  According to the manufacturer, the inclusion of a fourth yellow sub-pixel alongside the traditional red, green and blue helps its displays produce even more vivid colours.

The LE821E range comes in three sizes (40'', 46'' and 52'') and shares a lot of features with the more expensive LE920 family.  The design is the same in both cases, with a single pane of glass that covers the whole screen.  The backlighting doesn't change either, with both new lines relying on lateral LEDs, giving a total thickness of just 4 cm.

Other features shared between the two lines include a multimedia player which works using a USB port (for photos, music and SD and HD DivX) as well as over a DLNA network (but this time just for photos and music); online services and a built-in 8 GB hard drive for time-shifting live TV programming.

However, as is often the case with less highly-featured models, there are some compromises: the LE820 only has AquoMotion at 100 Hz instead of 200 Hz on the LE920.  This feature improves the fluidity of moving images in films to avoid the jerkiness introduced by the 24 fps framerate.
