Like LG, Samsung has been telling the Korean press all about its agreements to supply Sony with TV screen panels.
Samsung COO, Lee Jay Youg, told the Korean Times that Sony OLED TVs fitted with Samsung screen panels were due to land in 2013. "Bravia OLED TVs will be available to consumers from early next year," he said, with a deal currently in the pipeline to fix prices and supply volume between the two firms.
The Korean Times article reports that Samsung and Sony chiefs met last week to finalise the details of the partnership. Samsung apparently beat LG to the Sony OLED contract due to its more competitive pricing. We were a bit surprised to see that there wasn't some more technical reason behind the decision, as the two Korean firms have quite different approaches to OLED technology.
Sony's directors haven't commented on the news, but it seems strange that they've left it up to LG and Samsung to announce their upcoming TV ranges. LG revealed that Sony would be using its passive 3D panels in forthcoming 3D TV ranges, while Samsung has now seemingly revealed Sony's OLED TV release schedule. Sony, however, is keeping mum.
