While OLED TVs may not be with us for a some time yet, the first Quad HD TVs (also known as 4K TVs) are due to hit the market by the end of 2012. And the first models will be big-screen affairs, probably 84" TVs from Sony and LG.
Several readers have been in touch with us about 4K, musing over the advantages and disadvantages of the upgrade. Many worry that apart from the evident lack of 4K content, this new resolution will only be available in super-sized TVs, which may not be appropriate for users in smaller properties.
But those of us with shoebox-sized living rooms need not worry, as we learned back in April that Sharp is due to make 32" 4K screen panels. These were even being showcased at the IFA 2012 trade fair.
In fact, in the long run, we're likely to see Quad HD TVs in all kinds of sizes.
