With a PC

Even if the connection to your PC in HDMI offers perfect framing without alteration to text, we were bothered by a shaky image when there was a change in the display (for example when opening a new window in Vista).
This television is the 47’’ version of the 42’’ which we tested: the 42PFL7603D.
Characteristics, the panel and circuitry are identical and only brightness may vary slightly which minimally affects contrast. According to manufacturers (and our tests confirm), results from one diagonal size can easily be extrapolated to identical models of bigger or smaller sizes.
On the other hand, with its bigger diagonal size there is a slightly larger risk of accentuating the rescaling defects we noted with SD sources (TNT, DivX, game consoles, etc.) and the 42 inch model.
Pluses
-
Nice colors
-
One of the only Philips TVs that escapes from automatic gamma correction
-
Ambilight system
Minuses
-
Blacks are grayish
-
Display sometimes shakes in use with a PC
-
Contrast a bit weak
-
HD incompatible digital TV tuner
We clearly prefer the PFL7603H version to the D which has too many downsides in addition to the absence of an HD compatible digital tuner.
