Although, in theory, each Philips PFL5507H TV should be built with the same components, this particular TV seems to have been a victim of panel switching. This is apparently due to the TV's surprise success, as Philips has sold more models of this TV than initially expected.

Philips gave us the following explanation:

"I can confirm that, following the success of this model, we have had to turn to a different panel supplier in order to increase production.

As you know, panel suppliers have a very linear production process, so when demand peaks, they aren't always able to increase production capacities. This is what has happened here, so we've been forced to use a second panel supplier to fulfil the strong demand and to avoid product shortages.

That said, no matter what screen panel is used, we guarantee the same level of specifications (100Hz native refresh rate/400Hz PMR/Full HD/active 3D) as outlined on our original product spec sheet.
"

One of our readers has kindly lent us the new version of this TV so we can get a closer look at the new panel. While the basic specs may well remain the same, the screen technology has changed, and this can have consequences on picture quality. We'll be publishing a full review of this second Philips PFL5507H soon. In the meantime, we've removed it from our 40" to 47" TV buyer's guide.
