OLED TVs, initially expected to hit markets by holiday season this year, may not begin rolling out until "sometime in 2013".

Manufacturing capacities are just as low as ever; for now, it seems the Korean and North American markets have priority over Europe. There's an anecdote that shows how brutally true this is: two of the four OLED TVs that Samsung was supposed to present earlier this month at the IFA trade show in Berlin "got lost" somewhere between South Korea and Germany. And new ones never arrived, so Samsung had to change its whole stand at the last minute. One would think that, being on the cusp of a worldwide launch, the company would just send new ones. It's just two TVs. But that's where things are right now.

You have to remember, brands have been scratching their heads trying to find out how many consumers will actually buy a 55" TV for £6,000, when you can find excellent (and super-thin) 55" and 60" LCD and plasma TVs for almost an eighth of the price.



As consolation, a little bird told us that 4K TVs might be coming by the end of this year, so...
