We were expecting CES 2012 to be all about OLED TVs and Quad HD—which it is to a certain extent, but with launch expected in Q2 2012 and prices topping £8,000. In the end, then, it seems like one of THE hottest things to arrive in 2012 could actually be voice and motion control in television sets.
Steve Jobs dreamed of it, and now everyone's trying to make it happen—but with varying degrees of success, considering the systems we've tested so far. In fact, manufacturers from LG and Haier to Toshiba and Samsung have all been hard at work developing hands-free TV control systems based on voice and motion commands. Who knows, maybe one day Apple will get on board and crush all the hard-working competition in one fell swoop ...
From what we've seen so far, the Samsung voice and motion control system seems to be the most technically advanced and the most effective. We were treated to a private demonstration on the Samsung stand. Take a look for yourselves:
