The Moverio BT-100s, Epson 3D glasses, would seem to be based on a quite different concept to the Sony HMZ-T1 3D headset. To start with, the Epsons are transparent. In this sense, the Moverio BT-100s are more a pair of glasses than a headset. Video can be projected across the glasses either in 2D or 3D, but you can also see what's happening beyond (in the real world!). Also instead of on-ear headphones, the Epson model comes with in-ears. Dolby Mobile2 provides the sound spatialisation and the Moverios are also adjustable, like glasses, with no support frame around your head.

The Moverio BT-100s have a Micro SD (up to 2 GB) or micro SDHC (up to 32 GB) slot, which allows you to enjoy content without having to plug a source in. The glasses are also wi-fi compatible. Running on Android 2.2, you can use them to browse the Internet and a small touch-sensitive remote allows you to pilot the various device features. When images appear on the glasses, it makes the user feel as if they're watching a big screen, up to 320 inches (8.13 m) but the actual size of the LCD panels is 0.52 inches. The Moverio BT-100s use "high-temperature polysilicon TFT" technology and each glass can display an image of 960 x 540 pixels. Epson has announced a battery life of 6 hours.
The Epson concept with the Moverio BT-100s seems quite different to that of Sony's 3D headset as, instead of immersing the user entirely in their game or film, they remain connected to the outside world. The Moverio BT-100s should be out in Japan on November 25th.
