The TV of the Future, Also a Mirror

Back in May Simon Dongbae Lee, Principal Engineer at the Samsung R&D lab in Korea, told us that the TVs of the future would double-up as mirrors when not in use.

This two-in-one design is aimed at better-integrating TVs and digital displays into our homes and daily lives, replacing the huge devices we currently plonk in a corner of the living room.

Cybertecture seems to have pipped Samsung to the post with an interactive mirror, which will apparently be available to pre-order from as early as December. Check it out in the video below.

These web-connected mirrors will provide access to all kinds of multimedia content and they're loaded with apps for checking the weather, monitoring your weight or even having a quick morning workout. But whether they're a great helping hand or fast-track to information overload remains to be seen.

Here's the promotional video:

This interactive mirror isn't actually that revolutionary though, as all kinds of exotic screens, displays and TVs are regularly presented at technology shows like the IFA and the CES. Here at least, the mirror of the future is shown in context, but is that enough to make you rush out and buy one?

Web-connected mirrors also potentially have practical applications in the professional world, as you can see in this high-tech dentist's treatment room.
