TRIM support coming for SSDs on Mac OS X?

In a news item revealed on AnandTech Apple is reported to be close to activating TRIM support to optimise SSD functionality on Macs.

This feature which helps avoid the fragmentation of information on SSDs (flash memory drives) that brings about dips in performance, was not yet supported by Mac OS, in contrast to Windows 7 which supports it natively. Apple users are awaiting the update impatiently and it now seems to be close as the latest versions of the 13-inch MacBook Pro include a version of Mac OS X that can detect if the SSD is compatible with the TRIM feature.

Even though it isn't used yet, TRIM can be detected.

Sure, there is no TRIM support as of yet but this is a first stage before its activation. Those who were waiting to chuck out their old magnetic hard drive to replace it with an SSD will soon be able to do so.
