This week's tests + last week's top fives: Sharp LE820 TV

After last week's excitement about TVs, monitors regained ground in our top five this week.  Our survey of 40'' to 49'' TVs was still the second most widely-read article on the whole site, though, and we're committed to publishing more TV reviews as the summer continues.

This week, we're looking forward to bringing you the reviews of some products we've already talked about on the site, including a new laptop from Sony's Vaio P collection, a Sharp TV with yellow pixels as well as the usual red, green and blue and Panasonic's latest updates to its collection of Micro Four-Thirds cameras, the G2 and G10.

Tests for the week ahead

Coming on Monday: our test of Sharp's new four-colour TV

Here's a quick reminder of our weekly plan so you know where you stand:
Mondays: displays, including monitors and TVs. Tuesdays: cameras, camcorders and peripherals. Wednesdays: hardware components and printers. Thursdays: mobiles, smartphones and audio equipment. Fridays: laptops, notebooks, buyer's guides. Saturdays and Sundays: insight and analysis.

  • Wednesday: today's selection will range from the very small (four different CPUs from AMD and Intel) to large domestic appliances, with a third vacuum cleaner form Samsung.
  • Thursday: as usual, we'll be looking at a mobile phone today, with Nokia making a welcome return to our lab with its X6.  In the afternoon, we'll be looking at two external hard drives from Verbatim.
  • Friday: we reported on the arrival of Sony's Vaio P laptops earlier this month, and now we're actually testing one, the VPCP11, alongside another from Packard Bell.  In the afternoon, we'll be asking if there's still room for satnavs now that so many smartphones offer directions?
  • Monday: another development we reported on is the arrival of Sharp's Quattron technology, adding a fourth yellow subpixel to the tradition red, green and blue.  We'll be looking at how effective this new system is with a test of the Sharp Aquos LE820.
