This week's tests + last week's top fives: 3D plasma, beach cameras

After our first 3D TV test, the Samsung UE46C7700, this week saw another first in three dimensions, with the Panasonic TX-50VT20, the first plasma capable of displaying Blu-ray 3D discs, which blew us away with its record contrast. Alongside that, we looked at products as diverse as HTC's scaled-down version of the HD2, the HD Mini and an innovative new fan from Dyson that doesn't use blades.

The week ahead will be just as busy with plenty of interesting tests and reviews, but what will really be keeping us busy is a huge set of reviews that we're brining next week ... our experts are busy putting no fewer than six different waterproof cameras through their paces. Hopefully enough planes will be moving between now and next Tuesday for you to be able to pick one to take on holiday!

Tests for the week ahead

Thursday on DigitalVersus: our full test of the HTC Desire

Here's a quick reminder of our weekly plan so you know where you stand:
Mondays: displays, including monitors and TVs. Tuesdays: cameras, camcorders and peripherals. Wednesdays: hardware components and printers. Thursdays: mobiles, smartphones and audio equipment. Fridays: laptops, notebooks, buyer's guides. Saturdays and Sundays: insight and analysis.
  • Tuesday: we started off with our test of the Canon SX210, the latest sleek little point-and-shoot camera from Canon, but we'll be following up with something a little more technical: the new GTX 480 graphics card
  • Wednesday: in the morning, we'll be looking at a very affordable Full HD projector, the Epson EH-TW2900, followed by two laser printers, the Brother MFC-9320CW and MFC-9120CN
  • Thursday: our run of Android-based smartphones from HTC continues with the HTC Desire. As you might have noticed, our editor is currently stuck in Tokyo, but it's not all bad news: he had the chance to interview some of Sony's desingers about where they're going with laptop screens.
  • Friday: as always on a Friday, we'll be looking at laptops, with four different netbooks in our roundup, including the Asus EeePC 1008P and EeePC 1005PE, the Packard Bell dot S2 and the Samsung N220.
And that's not including a few surprises that might just pop up if you're lucky ...
