The Ultimate Racing Set-Up

Earlier this week, we were lucky enough to take part in an Nvidia presentation event for 3DVision technology. It was like a big exhibition with stands from manufacturers on various 3D-related subjects. The Asus stand, in particular, caught our attention.

Take a look at it below:

Thanks to Guillaume Henri, Technical Media Relations Manager at Asus, for stepping into the hot-seat.

In this picture, you can see our designated driver in a Playseats Evolution gaming chair and holding onto a Logitech G25 racing wheel. The computer is a Corsair Dream Machine with SLI Nvidia GTX480 video cards. That's hooked up to three 120 Hz Asus VG236H monitors, making a total image resolution of 5760 x 1080 pixels, and all in 3DVision Surround (not visible in this photo).

I want one!

If this kind of serious racing set-up doesn't have you itching to take the wheel then I don't know what will. To recreate this set-up at home though, you'll need a fairly large disposable income. Here's what you'll need.

1 x Playseats Evolution, Black: from £430 2 x Nvidia GTX480: approx. £900 3 x Asus VG236H: approx. £1,200

This little lot will set you back no less than £2,980: a bargain ... ahem! That's not all though, as there are all kinds of other charges we haven't included, like the cost of other computer components, games etc. However, after being seriously impressed by the set-up of the gaming station, the actual game I saw demonstrated didn't run all that smoothly and was noticeably slow at times. Bummer!
