The Pew Research Center and Zone Alarm have looked at the behaviour of teenagers on social networks.

The study looks at the approach young Americans have to social networks and their tendency towards kindness/cruelty with respect to their contacts.

We learn that 76% of 12-17 year-olds  are social network users (although most sites ban access for under 13s), that the youngest connect mainly for gaming and, more worryingly, that 30% of 12-17 year-olds have shared a password with one of their contacts.

The full report is available from Pew Internet with the main data accessible below (click on image to view fully).
