After buying Engadget, the other influential American hi-tech news blog, AOL has now also bought TechCrunch.

While Michael Arrington, founder of TechCrunch, talented analyst with his finger very much on the pulse in his sector - notably social networking - and conference organiser, will remain at the helm of the blog editorial team, created just six years ago, his baby has now become an AOL subsidiary.
No figures have been given but specialists estimate the transaction to be at least USD 25 million.
AOL is pursuing acquisitions with a view to relaunching a general news portal fed by top specialist contributors.
