Sony's Xperia Tablet S is a splashproof device that can withstand autumnal showers, kids' spills and kitchen nightmares. However certain series of Sony tablet have been subject to a manufacturing problem that has affected the product's water-tightness. Seeing as we're currently testing the Xperia Tablet S, we thought we'd run ours under the tap just for good measure. Check it out in the video below.
The Xperia Tablet S is an Android 4.0 tablet with a 9.4" screen and a 1.3 GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 processor. It has 1 GB of RAM, an SD/SDXC memory card slot and a host of exclusive apps, like the universal remote app that works with the tablet's infrared port. The Xperia Tablet S is also splashproof, but a manufacturing fault on certain product series has led Sony to temporarily halt sales. After all, no-one wants a leaky tablet.
We didn't notice any particular problems or faults when we ran our Xperia Tablet S under the tap—even though it turns out the tablet we were sent to test was from the faulty series! On the photo below, you can see a gap between the two parts of the tablet's casing.
Sony says that the manufacturing fault affects models in the SGPT121**, SGPT122** and SGPT123**
product series. More information about the fault and what to do if you own one of these tablets can be found on the Sony UK support page.
Stay tuned for our full review of the Sony Xperia Tablet S, coming on Thursday.
