Microsoft isn't doing things by halves either, as the firm has sent us a 64 GB Surface tablet on Windows RT complete with three Touch Cover touch-sensitive keyboards plus the super-slim Type Cover physical keyboard.

The Surface RT tablet has a 10.1" screen with 1366 x 768 pixels and runs on a 1.3 GHz  Nvidia Tegra 3 processor and 2 GB of RAM. It's available with memory capacities ranging from 32 GB to 128 GB. A micro SD memory card slot is on hand for boosting storage, and there's a USB port and a micro HDMI output.

After unboxing the tablet and giving it a quick once-over, our immediate impression was that Microsoft has paid incredibly close attention to product finish with the Surface—it's a sleek piece of kit! Not one person in our office had a bad word to say about this tablet's look or feel. And although we've already seen the Touch Cover touch-sensitive keyboard up-close, we were just as surprised by its original design and by its excellent responsiveness to text entry. Several onlookers in our office even managed to mistake it for some kind of fake cardboard keyboard. The Type Cover physical keyboard makes up for its rather plasticky feel with a super-slim design.

Our first performance tests show that the Nvidia Tegra 3 processor behaves in a very similar way here to in Android tablets, like the Google Nexus 7, for example.

Stay tuned for our full review of the Microsoft Surface RT tablet, coming soon.
