Asus has put several new products on display at IFA Berlin this year. Two are Windows 8 tablets with the same basic configuration as the company's Transformer Pads: touchscreen tablets with a detachable physical keyboard with its own battery and connectors. Meet the Vivo Tabs.

Little by little, Asus has been refining its concept of the "transformable" tablet. And after its Android models, it has now begun designing slates for Microsoft's upcoming OS. The Vivo Tab RT (left) and Vivo Tab (right) have capacitive touchscreens measuring 11.6 inches and 10.1 inches, respectively, and will go on sale in November, not long after the launch of Windows 8.

The Vivo Tab boasts an Intel Atom processor and Windows 8 Pro, and the Vivo Tab RT carries an Nvidia Tegra 3. As the Tegra 3 is an ARM CPU, it's designed to access the new Windows 8 touchscreen interface exclusively. Both tablets feature a 2-Megapixel front-facing webcam and an 8-Megapixel rear-facing photo/video camera with an LED flash.

Asus says both have a theoretical battery life of 8 hours, plus 7 hours for the Vivo Tab RT when plugged into the dock, and plus 5 hours for the Vivo Tab when docked. The Vivo Tab comes with a capacitive stylus built by Wacom (shown in the picture below).

We were disappointed to see that the SD/SDHC port from the previous Transformer Pad docks has been omitted on these models.

The Vivo Tab RT weighs 520 grammes (plus 538 g for the dock) and the Vivo Tab weighs 700 g (plus 600 g for the dock). We noticed that Asus has made a slight change to the hinge system on the tablet/dock connection interface. The push-button that locks the two together has been moved to the side of the tablet to cover the hooks when it's open and generally make the whole thing look more spiffy.
