HP appears to have regained interest in the mobile tablet market. After unveiling its business-oriented ElitePad 900, the company is now setting its sights on the average consumer with the Slate 7.

As the name suggests, the Slate 7 has a 7-inch screen (1024 x 600 resolution). It has Fringe Field Switching, a technology that makes the display legible in full sunlight, and two cameras: 3 Megapixels for the rear-facing sensor and VGA for the front-facing webcam.

The Slate 7 boasts a 1.6 GHz ARM Cortex A9 dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD. It runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, features Beats Audio and has a micro-USB port, Bluetooth 2.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.

HP's new touchscreen baby will go on sale in the US in April for $169.
