A few blocks away from the Convention Center where the main event is taking place, Asus invited us to a luxurious suite in the Trump tower to present a few new products, including the Transformer Prime HD that was leaked a few days ago. Note that its official name is the EeePad Transformer 700 Series.
Asus therefore seems to be gradually establishing a tablet range with models that offer varying specs and price tags.

The Prime HD can basically be seen as a high-definition version of the Transformer Prime, as the 10.1-inch Super IPS+ capacitive touchscreen has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels (16:10), compared with 1280 x 800p for the Prime. Otherwise, the new HD model runs on the same 1.4 GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor and has 1 GB of RAM.

As well as a new screen that'll no doubt boost viewing quality for HD content and web browsing, the Transformer Prime 700 Series does have a few other updated features. Asus has, for example, corrected the GPS connectivity issues caused by the aluminium casing in the Prime. The 700 Series therefore has a soft-touch strip on the upper part of the rear face, which is home to the GPS and the 8-Megapixel photo and video camera with LED flash. Plus, the aluminium on the back of the tablet now has a brushed finished rather than an iridescent finish.

The model we saw was running on Android Ice Cream Sandwich version 4.0.3. Release is slated for Q2 2012 with prices at $599 and $699 for the 32 GB and 64 GB tablets without the optional keyboard dock.
