Sony's app for downloading exclusive PlayStation Mobile games is coming soon to Asus touchscreen tablets.
After announcing PlayStation certification for HTC back in June, Sony is now extending the scheme to certain Asus devices. The PlayStation Mobile app will offer users access to games exclusively developed for Sony's mobile gaming platform, with over 40 games developers apparently already on board. Basically, it'll be a bit like Nvidia's TegraZone.
Access to the platform is currently restricted to Sony smartphones and tablets, and it mostly features games from the original PlayStation One console. However, new PlayStation certified devices will only have access to freshly developed content, not PS One classic games (for that you'll need a PS Vita or a PS3).
The service is due to launch in autumn 2012 on selected HTC mobiles and on the Asus Transformer Pad TF300, Transformer Pad Prime and Transformer Pad Infinity TF700 tablets. The Transformer Pad TF101 and Google Nexus 7 aren't on the list.
However, it seems that negotiations are under way to bring PlayStation certification to the 7" Google/Asus tablet too—even if Google has covered its back with the Play Store, ensuring the Nexus can go it alone if necessary. In fact, the Nexus 7 doesn't even come with Nvidia's TegraZone pre-loaded out-of-the-box, despite the fact it runs on an Nvidia Tegra 3 chip.
