Asus has announced on its Facebook page that the Transformer Prime hybrid tablet will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), the latest version of Google's Android OS, in a few days' time.

To update the tablet, users should go to the Settings menu on 12 January, then go the tab containing information about the tablet (at the bottom of the menu) and select the update option. According to Asus, an upgrade to Android 4.0 should then be automatically proposed.

If you're lucky enough to own one of the few Transformer Prime tablets out there, a separate software update is already available, brining improved stability to the OS, correcting the Wi-Fi issues seen in some models and improving the main camera's autofocus.

A confirmed release date for the Ice Cream Sandwich update is promising news, as the EeePad Transformer Prime has always been tipped to be the first touchscreen tablet to run on Android 4.0. All Asus needs to do now is make sure there are enough of its tablets in both physical and online stores to meet demand, as for the moment the Transformer Prime is pretty scarce. Asus has, however, promised to all it can to fulfil customer orders as quickly as possible.

Note that the original Asus EeePad Transformer will be getting its upgrade to Android 4.0 at a later date.
