Acer and BenQ have both been adding a touch of style to their monitors, but that's not all: as well as a new design, both manufacturers have launched monitors with HDMI inputs, a 2 ms response time, built-in speakers and a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution.  Which do you prefer?

Acer's specs talk about a rather stunning contrast ratio of 100 000:1 … we'd rather they spent their time dreaming up more imaginative names for their products than making such exaggerated claims.

BenQ's monitor is more expensive, but that is justified by the presence of two HDMI ports--meaning you can connect both your computer and a games console for instance, without having to sort out the cables all the time--as well as four-port USB hub.  The contrast on the E2420HD seems relatively modest at 'just' 50 000:1 … but if we only managed to reach a tenth of that in our tests we'd be surprised as that's never happened on an LCD monitor.
