StoreJet 25D3: Transcend's USB 3.0 hard drive announced

Transcend recently unveiled its new StoreJet 25D3, a USB 3.0 external hard drive that's set to run circles around its USB 2.0 counterparts.

In fact, theoretical transfer speeds should increase from 480 Mbps for USB 2.0 to 4.8 Gbps for USB 3.0.

Plus, a handy coloured LED lets you know what type of connection the StoreJet 25D3 is hooked up to: orange for USB 2.0 and blue for USB 3.0.

It has a 500 GB capacity and is supplied with StoreJet Elite software for accessing online accounts, protecting your documents with 256-bit AES encryption, checking your e-mail and storing your favourite web addresses.

It's due for release soon and should cost somewhere in the region of £100.
 
 
Be careful not to confuse the 25D3 with the new versions of the StoreJet 25D2. These hard drives have the same basic spec as the 25D3 but they're only compatible with USB 2.0. Plus, given that there's not likely to be a huge difference in price between USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 models, we know which one we'll be picking ...
