Apple unveiled its latest updates at a press event in San Francisco yesterday. As ever, details of the products on show were shrouded in secrecy until the last minute.
After an hour of the show, we'd seen: Steve Jobs back on stage, looking thin and sounding quiet, but clearly very happy; a new interface for iTunes 9, available now; an extension in the iPod Touch range, and--most excitingly, a video camera on the new iPod Nano.
As ever, the whole thing was peppered with digs at Apple's critics. There were so many of them that it was hard to keep up:

After an hour of the show, we'd seen: Steve Jobs back on stage, looking thin and sounding quiet, but clearly very happy; a new interface for iTunes 9, available now; an extension in the iPod Touch range, and--most excitingly, a video camera on the new iPod Nano.

As ever, the whole thing was peppered with digs at Apple's critics. There were so many of them that it was hard to keep up:
- The iPod has 73.8% of market share for portable music players. Microsoft's Zune? 1.1%.
- On an iPod Touch, you can surf the web using WiFi and it fits in your pocket. After you have tried getting a netbook in your pocket? Cue a photo of a Dell netback being forced into a pair of jeans ...
- The cost of a game for the Nintendo DS or the Sony PSP: from $25 to $40, against merely a handful of dollars from Apple.
- Number of games available for the DS: 3 680. PSP: 607. Apple iPhone OS: 21 178.
The Apple Store has already been updated, and includes some sample videos shot on the 2009 version of the iPod nano.
- The iPod Shuffle is available in new colours from £45.
- The new iPod nano now starts at £115.
- The iPod Classic is now £189 for 160 GB.
- The new iPod Touch costs £149 for the 8 GB version, £229 for the 32 GB version and £299 for the 64 GB version.
