It's now twelve years since Starcraft first hit the PC games market. After many reports, rumours and false announcements, Starcraft II is finally with us.

For twelve years, the Terrans, Protoss and Zergs have been waiting to take each other on once again. The resumption of hostilities will be marked, during the solo campaign in any case, by two ceasefires. Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty only includes the Terran campaign, and we'll have to wait for the release of Heart of Swarm (Zerg campaign) and then Legacy of the Void (Protoss campaign) to be able to finish the story. It's a single campaign then, but according to the game's developer, it should have a sufficiently long life to encourage the purchase of the two subsequent campaigns.

There's no limit to the multi-player game, however. Using your Battle.net account, you'll be able to incarnate any of the three races in a combat with other players, or in a team against the computer. Moreover, Blizzard has taken up the system by which in exchange for completing a challenge (e.g. winning 10 fights with the Zergs) you gain access to a title proving completion of the challenge. The system, already used in World of Warcraft, is a way of giving gamers a dose of satisfaction, as well as new objectives to attain. It should also stop boredom setting in too quickly.
