Sony Bravia HX803: a third way into 3D, and it's the cheapest

Sony is planning to release three different range of 3D TVs this year.  We've already looked at the LX903 (40'', 52'' and 60'') and the HX903 (46'' and 52''), but that leaves the cheapest of the three, the HX803, which will come in 40'', 46'' and 55'' versions.

These new models were first unveiled by Sony at this year's CES back in January, but haven't been much discussed since them.  They are part of the 'monolithic design' collection, but note that this superb new stand that has got everybody talking isn't included as standard on the HX800s.  Instead, it's an optional extra that will add around £200 to the total cost.  It will be able to produce 'a bit more sound', enough to make a noticeable difference from the ordinary speakers, according to Sony, but then again, a dedicated sound bar is a lot more expensive.

The HX800 will be the most affordable of Sony's 3D TVs, with the 40'' version coming in at under £1500.  But then there's another problem: for that price, 3D glasses aren't included.  Samsung has adopted a similar policy, so the two manufacturer's pricing should be comparable to start with.

That means you'll be buying a 3D compatible TV, which includes a 2D to 3D convertor, but you'll need at least one pair of glasses to get the most out of it.
