If you like to go and put the kettle on while you're waiting for your computer to start up, then Microsoft might have some bad news for you: Windows 8, the firm's latest operating system, won't even give you enough time to look for a cup ...


The laptop on show in the video above took just under eight seconds to launch Windows 8.  And the company clearly isn't cheating by starting from standby: the battery was removed before the test began and the laptop clearly isn't plugged in, so this is definitely a cold start.

If Microsoft manages to pull this off in the final version of Windows 8, then it could be the end of an era in workplaces everywhere ...
