However, with three fairly similar models out there right now—the Canon EOS 1100D, Nikon D3100 and Pentax K-r—we can't really leave one of them out. These days, you can pick up an entry-level SLR complete with kit lens for under £400. Plus, the latest models don't have that much to envy of higher-end or even expert-level SLRs, which can sometimes cost twice the price. Obviously an entry-level SLR will be a more basic camera, with a smaller viewfinder and fewer buttons and controls, but these beginners' models still have decent CMOS sensors, excellent image processing systems and good video modes.
