These days, you can pick up an entry-level SLR complete with kit lens for under £400. Plus, the latest models don't have that much to envy of higher-end or even expert-level SLRs, which can sometimes cost twice the price. Obviously an entry-level SLR will be a more basic camera, with a smaller viewfinder and fewer buttons and controls, but these beginners' models still have decent CMOS sensors, excellent image processing systems and good video modes.
All you have to do know is pick a model: the Canon EOS 1100D, Nikon D3100 or Pentax K-r.
