What we announced yesterday has become official today: Seagate has just bought Samsung's HDD division.
The transaction comes to USD 1.375bn, half of which will be paid in shares.
In addition to the sale the two companies will also be collaborating in the following areas:
- an agreement on the supply of Samsung flash NAND memory to Seagate to enable them to manufacture SSDs;
- an agreement to enable Samsung to equip its PCs, laptops and other equipment with Seagate hard drives;
- the two companies will also be working together in the development of new storage solutions.
