The first TomTom Starts (photo above) came with a small screen, small price tag and features that were previously reserved for the mid-range.
The new Start 20 and 25 unfortunately cost a good bit more. They have almost all the advantages of the Via 110 (excepting the design and voice recognition) but aren't actually all that much cheaper, in spite of being positioned as low-end. Let's hope they will be reduced in price quite quickly to get them closer to the £100 mark.
The TomTom Start 25 is identical to the TomTom Start 20 that we have tested, with the exception of its bigger screen. Here the screen is a 5-inch compared to a 4.3-inch for the Start 20. This gain in surface area translates to better legibility and an additional star in the hardware and finish rating.
Hardware and finish: good manufacture, overly cautious design
Features: a nice interface though it could be more responsive
Route guidance: the essential
Extra features: navigation and that's it!
