Just as Dell has brought out its new models, the Inspiron M101z and M301z based on AMD's Nile, Samsung are unveiling a new ultra-portable laptop based on this same platform.

The Samsung X125 is an 11.6-inch (1366 x 768 pixels) ultra-portable laptop with an AMD Athlon Neo II K125 processor (single-core but we're expecting a dual-core K325 eventually). It is accompanied by 3 GB of RAM, a 320 GB (5400 rpm) hard drive and a built-in graphics solution, the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4225 which handles HD video decoding (limited video gaming).

It has therefore been designed for internet and office doc use, like your standard Intel Atom processor netbook for example. We hope however for better performance from the Samsung X125, which shouldn't be too much of a problem given the low levels of performance given by most netbooks.

Delivered with a 6-cell battery, it should also have pretty good battery life (see our future test). Note the wide connectivity options on this machine, with HDMI and VGA outs, a 4-in-1 memory card reader, 3 USB 2.0 ports and Bluetooth 3.0 with Wi-Fi b/g/n. In contrast, no USB 3.0 on the programme.

We're expecting to get our hands on it for the end of the summer hols (to be confirmed) at around the £400 mark.
