First unveiled back in September, Samsung's X series is made up of ultra-thin, lightweight laptops. They're based on Intel's very efficient CULV processors and it's not just the hardware that's thin and light--so's the price.
Following the current trend for stylish but inexpensive laptops, Samsung's new laptops look set to be direct competitors of Acer's TimeLine series or MSI's X-Slim family. The similarities are so obvious that we're worried we'll see a whole collection of very similar models with almost identical specs, as is the case with today's netbooks.
Each version of the X series comes in a series of different options, but they all have ultra low-voltage Intel processors, either dual-core Celeron SU2300s or dual-core Pentium SU4100, dual-core processors that are more powerful than the Atoms found in notebooks. They're perfectly suited to surfing the web and doing office work. Then you can choose from 2 GB to 4 GB of RAM, and a 250 GB or 320 GB hard drive; the graphics chipset is the Intel GMA 4500MHD which can handle HD video for the HDMI output.
The X range comes in three different sizes, but the displays all have a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.
All in all, it seems that Samsung's new collection of ultra-thin laptops is ready to take on the competition. We think the amount of bang you get for buck with these new models seems very reasonable, especially given that they have dual-core processors.

- First up is the X120, a 'large netbook' with a 11.6'' screen. It's not unlike the Acer Aspire TimeLine 1810T.

- In the middle of the range is the X420, with a 14'' screen--a real competitor to the MSI X-Slim X400.
