To change a bit from the Series 7 products, Samsung has introduced its Series 3 305U1, an 11.6-inch equipped with a matte panel and an AMD fusion APU.

With an 11.6-inch chassis and a 1368 x 768 pixel matte panel, the Samsung Series 3 305U1 has HDMI and VGA connectivity, an SD card reader, an audio port, Ethernet and three USB ports. It also has wi-fi and Bluetooth modules.

In contrast to Samsung's previous announcements at the IFA, here, rather than an Intel solution, the manufacturer has opted for an AMD APU Fusion E-350 alongside the AMD HD6310M graphics (you can see an evaluation of this on the Acer 5253 page). This machine also has 2 GB of RAM and a 250 GB hard drive.

Going on past experience, its level of performance will be more along the lines of a notebook than an ultra-portable, which means it should be able to handle your office documents and any Internet browsing you want to do but will require more patience when being used with any applications using 3D modelling. The graphics solution will be able to handle Full HD video decoding perfectly but gaming capacity will be low.

It weighs in at 1.2 Kg and is nowhere more than 2.5 cm thick. If we're to take Samsung's word for it, the 305U1 also has a 7-hour battery life. Its price will put it out of the reach of some however, as it has been announced at €590 (£510) in Germany. You can after all now pick up an ultra like the Acer 3830T for not a great deal more and have a lot more power under the bonnet.
