Samsung makes Avatar a reality with transparent OLED display

If we leave the storyline to one side for a minute, there's no denying that the 3D effects in Avatar and its vision of the near future are pretty stunning. But Samsung has just delivered on one element of the movie a long time ahead of 2054 by demonstrating a working prototype of 14'' transparent OLED display.

Samsung's laptop, on show last week at the CES ...

Just last year, Samsung showed off a small, stand-alone see-through screen. This time though, the 14'' transparent display is attached to a working laptop.
No doubt the pessimists amongst you will see the glass as 9/10 empty: what's all the fuss about a glossy display which, at 40% transparency is unusable about 40% of the time. Worse, it's not only not yet on sale, but we don't know anything about the tech specs or the how much it will cost. And, to add insult to injury, the prototypes on show are full of Chinese Korean so we don't understand a single word ...
As an optimist at heart, though, I can only see the tenth of the glass that's full. And I absolutely can't wait! I'm bouncing off the walls with excitement and can't wait to try it out …
